Believe it or not, this strip was not just a set-up for that joke. I had entirely different dialogue in that last panel in my layout stage. The original panel was a low angle shot of Pastor. However, when I went to pencil the panel, I changed it slightly to include Det. Andy Haworth restraining his partner, Mike Steiner. The new panel suggested a little more give-and-take and that’s what came to mind. There haven’t been too many points of levity in the strip so far, so I hope you forgive the indulgence.
Thanks for coming back. Keep spreading the word, ’cause last Wednesday, WORLD OF HURT enjoyed some of the highest traffic since it’s inception. I really appreciate all the good will and your continued support. I can’t say that enough.

Hell, yes. No apology required.
Don’t make Pastor take off the shades, fool!
From now on, I’ll be taking my coffee black!
Andy,
I can’t go that far, even for my art. I gotta have mine with copious amounts of sugar, cream, and an insulin injection.

Respect! The shades turned out to be a nice prop. Pastor’s still typically taciturn, but I thought wearing them indoors as Mrs. Patterson recovered her daughter’s body implied a little something about Pastor’s own emotional state. But when Pastor whipped them off, he was still ice-cold, baby!

I love the fact he calls him Mikey, like he’s some kid. Adds to the tensions and disrepect. It’s an action story, and every action story needs a few good one liners.
I think the “make mine black” is a great line, and especially brings to mind the films you are paying homage to.
Good stuff. Been reading this strip all afternoon. Sweet one liner there, mate.
And your art astounds me. Feels just like the 70s pulps.
Keep up the awesome work.
Englishman-
I’m glad you found the strip. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it, and I’m always glad to hear from new readers. I’m really old-school with my art, so I’m fortunate that I found a subject matter that matches that style so well.

Hell yes. I’m reading all of the backposts and this one is my favorite so far. LOVE the last panel. Pastor is gettin REAL.
