I’m glad Parker brought up Arrested Development. I have to admit that when I hear the name of Carl Weathers, I think more of his outstanding cameos on that show than anything else.

I can only hope Carl will be included in the forthcoming movie based on the show.

And, by the way, he is truly a bad mother ******.

What’s up? I watched that scene about 10 times and laughed each time. Actually, I did want to talk about Weathers’ comedy chops in “Arrested Development” and “Happy Gilmore,” but the post was getting too long. I also wanted to talk about “Predator” and “Action Jackson” Maybe I’ll have to give Carl Weathers his own separate induction, like how the Hall of Fame will induct someone as a solo artist and for their work in a group.

“Authenticity” is exactly the right word for the original “Rocky.” Besides Rocky losing, there’s a lot about that movie that slipped down the memory hole. Stallone’s Oscar for screenwriting and his sensitive portrayal of Rocky as this sweet, well-meaning man-child are two fo the others. I don’t feel bad for Stallone, because he became a huge star, but he had a knack for crafting complex characters that exploded in popularity and then collapsed into a black hole of caricature.

Weathers really, really deserved to become a bigger star. Imagine him as Mister in “The Color Purple” or Lando Calrissian? Sug would still be on that farm and do you think Vader would have tried to mess with HIM?

Well deserved! Always thought Apollo was a fascinating character and can’t explain why any better than you did.

It’s a waste of breath to even mention that the original is light years better than any of the sequels (although I found myself accidentally liking “Rocky Balboa.”) Part of that’s is its authenticity. Rocky could muster the performance of his life and, for one shining moment, hang with the greatest — but in the end, Dude … Creed’s going to win. He’s a badass whose mettle is tested and, in the end, is up for the challenge.

To make the fans happy, they had to feed him to Rock in II. It started the slow slide into cartoonery for that series. (Tommy Morrison? Really? Who’s going to believe *that* guy could step into an actual boxing ring and hope to win. Oh, wait … .)

Also … you win Friday for reminding me of “The Count of Monte Fisto.”
