THE THRILL-SEEKERS 26: Tell The Truth, Shame The Devil – Part 6

Well, we’ve gotten to the bottom of the mystery.  Now it’s time for payback.

  1. Damn! What some people would do for their dream. And they weren’t even planning on helping him out, until they got in deep. I hope Pastor messes them all up good. Pack of Rat Bastards!!! I am guessing we will get to see our hero again next week, and I am expecting VENGEANCE!!!!!

    The Pirate Musketeer-
My favorite part was that although Duke read Charles’ intentions correctly, there was no quid pro quo until Alicia died. He was turning her over to this terrible fate, bargaining away the dignity and life of another human being, and was getting nothing in return. Duke just got more pathetic and repulsive with each strip. Part of the fun was stripping away the mystique of the Blaxploitation pimp.

Pastor does indeed return in the next strip and starts doling out the copious amounts of pain. Noelle was aghast when I described potential fate of one character. Her look of incredulity told me I was on the right path.

By the way, do you have a new URL?

  3. Actually, I don’t see this as the end of the mystery. In true Dickens fashion, I think you can drag this out a bit because we don’t know what the the trio ended up really doing to her (or did I miss something?).

Also, consider the narrative structure may benefit from keeping that last panel out until a later strip. I like the idea that Duke easily sells out another person, only then not get what he wants.

I might like to see him tangle with it, if even only for a couple more panels — get to that whole blaxploitation feel that The Man won’t help you out, even if you sell out. Maybe I’m overthinking it.

    AWM-
I will strongly imply what happened to Alicia, but I won’t actually state it, because the reader’s imagination is much more powerful than mine. The “three days later” line gives an indication of how long they had her before she died.

I included the last panel, because I wanted to give the reader a sense of finality that the “Tell The Truth, Shame The Devil,” mini-arc has reached it’s conclusion. I do have the next strip written, and partially illustrated, but there may be some room to play with the notion of The Duke being initially denied what he wanted. You’re not overthinking it, it’s a good idea. Thanks!

Jay you are in great form. I showed your site to my brother and he loved the edge in your comics.
When will we see a printed book?

    Goncalo-
Thank you,and I’m glad you’re sharing the comic. I appreciate you spreading the HURT. (Speaking of pain, I saw Wally a couple of weeks ago, and he is doing well.)

My plan is to publish a compilation by April of next year, in time for the comic book convention season.
