THE THRILL-SEEKERS 58 – Once Again, It’s On

THE THRILL-SEEKERS 58 – Once Again, It’s On

Last weekend was a big, big weekend for me.  As you probably know by now, I received three Glyph Comics Awards on Friday.  The included the Rising Star Award, Best Male Character, and Best Artist.  I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the awards ceremony in Philadelphia, PA and blessed enough to have my parents, my brother and nephew, and my fiancee in the audience with me.  The Glyph Comics Awards are held in conjunction with the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention.  It was a very positive event that rightfully puts a lot of focus on kids, who are sadly overlooked by most of the comics industry.  I met a number of individuals whom I had only known as an online presence and had the added pleasure of meeting many more.

I honestly do believe that, in some way, all you readers deserve to take a bow for helping shape the character of “Pastor.”  It was your feedback and advice that let me know if I was on the right track.  I definitely appreciate that and your support in the past year.  You helped make what was only a distant dream over a year ago into a vivid reality.

Thanks again!

Mmmmm. Mmmmm. Mmmmmm. (You know what I am talking about.)

  2. Doug G says:

It’s the “True Blood” approach – a little man-butt sprinkled in with the hot action for the ladies. : )

Good stuff. I’m thinking that if anybody can get away with bringing a knife to a gun fight, it’s Pastor.

And congrats again, Jay. It’s more voices saying what we all think — mighty glad you put pen to paper and made this a reality.

    Doug G-
Pastor has no respect for “The Chicago Way.” It makes things too easy.

KaROOM! Once again, a killer old-school sound effect. Don’t think anybody’s made that noise since the Thing or Colossus circa 1980. Congrats again on the Glyphs!

  5. Mistah Pete says:

Righteous! (about the awards. Love the strip, too, but that’s a given. Any time there’s not a comment from me on here, know that it’s me saying “Righteous” again and again… if the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me…)

  6. Seoul says:

    You deserve it big homie.

  7. Chuck Patton says:

Is that a K-bar or a Bowie knife in Pastor’s hand?
Either way, its about to become a Slaughtertime on the Yacht!

and, Congratulations on your awards, Jay.

    Well deserved and earned.

  8. Ramon says:

I think “award winning” needs to be somewhere in that header…

  9. A'Omare says:

liked this weeks strip. well damn, how does a comic strip character make me wanna work out even more?!

  10. Jay Kelley says:

Did they play the theme from Superfly when you claimed your awards?

  11. That is stinkin’ awesome! Huge congrats to you, sir! You certainly deserve all three awards.

  12. Congrats!
These and future awards are earned and deserved.
Who knows, some day, you may get a Unsung BadMother****** Award yourself!
    Keep on pushin’

    RBynum-
I’m having more fun with the sound effects than I thought I would. In recent years, there’s been a trend in comics not to use them in an attempt to make comics more “cinematic.” Now, here I am doing a comic based on a cinematic genre and I decide to embrace sound effects. I’m ever the contrarian…

    Mistah Pete-
    Right on!

    Seoul-
Much appreciated. It’s been an intense year with WORLD OF HURT, and this was a great way to cap it.

    Mr. Patton-
Thank you. I’ve been looking forward to the upcoming violence for quite some time. However, I may still have a couple moments that folks won’t see coming.
    (Oh, I was going for a k-bar.)
    Ramon-
I was kinda thinking of changing my header. Hmmmmm.

    A’Omare-
My fiancee has been having a lot of fun with the “swimsuit issues.” Too much fun…

    Jay Kelley-
That would have been immodest, so I requested James Brown’s “The Boss,” instead.

    Scott Salsman-
Thanks! When I accepted the one for “Best Male Character,” I made a point to mention the readers’ feedback for helping me shape Pastor’s attitude and personality. So thanks to all of you guys.

    “dollar” BILL-
Thanks! Also that give me the perfect oppurtunity to shamelessly plug my Unsung BMF entry last month for The Spook Who Sat By The Door http://worldofhurtonline.com/tag/the-spook-who-sat-by-the-door/ . I’m not too sure how many people saw it when I ran it.

Congratulations! Well deserved awards for sure!

  15. Congrats, man! This is an amazing comic strip and all the accolades are greatly deserved. Are you collecting this thing in a trade format eventually? Also, love the sound effects. It’s been too long since most comics embraced fun in the format!

  16. Jay Potts says:

    Josh-
Thanks for question and I appreciate the kind words.

The Thrill-Seekers storyline will be wrapping very soon, but I’m already looking at self-publishing a collection of this story arc. I’ve narrowed it down to about two printers, at this point. I’ve had to do a little more research, because the format will be a little unusual and not the standard comic/graphic novel or magazine format. My intention is to print one strip per page, so the book will be longer than it is tall, but with the introduction and behind the scenes stuff I want to add, it should clock in at a nice 72-80 pages.
