THE BLACK FIST 2 – The Message

THE BLACK FIST 2 – The Message

Welcome back!

I gotta tell you, I need to do more caricature work, because I had a lot of fun drawing the Nixon masks.

We had a couple big announcements this week.  First, I extended the deadline for the trivia contest, because I goofed up and listed the wrong e-mail address for myself.  However, the biggest announcement is the fact that C.E. Garcia, a member of The Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra, has penned an incredible theme song for WORLD OF HURT that will be available on iTunes in the next couple weeks.  I plan on unveiling a short sample of the song right here prior to the release date. (Also, I want to give a shout out to Alfredo E. Fratti, who contributed to the song with a killer…oops, I almost said too much!)

Again, I want to thank you for sticking by me these past couple months during the intermission and the sporadic updates.  Things are settling down a bit, but I, and my family, really appreciated your support.

  1. Eww…I could see that being the message. Don’t you hate it when victims set themselves up to be well…victims. Like in Reservoir Dogs when Nash says, “You can torture me all you want”
Mr Blonde, “Torture?” like he never thought of the idea, “yeah, I think I’ll torture you!”
    Horribly ominous.
Hey, I’d also like to retract my reference of Nixon masks to Point Break. I’m reading Frank Miller’s ‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns’ at the moment and he has crims in Nixon masks.
    That’s a MUCH better reference, I hope!!

Damn! That last panel is creepy. You could draw a mean ‘horror’ trip if you wanted. In fact, a crossover between Pastor and Blade (from Tomb of Dracula in the 70’s) would be out of sight.

As always another great episode. Keep it up Jay!

  3. Doug G says:

It’s awesome how the masks, as ridiculous as they are, make this scene (especially the last panel) even darker and more ominous. Also interesting how, after “The Thrill Seekers,” I had an instant negative reaction to the partiers-turned-victims, but that they become sympathetic so quickly when you see their fear. Great start, sir.

  4. Summey says:

Glad to see you back with a vengence. The last panel PERFECT!!!! with the creepy lighting. We don’t even need to see exactly what they do b/c that panel tells us it is going to gory and horrific. Keep doing what you do.

    MAS-
Now I can’t get “Stuck In The Middle With You” out of my head. Also, Pastor don’t shiv. He nasty. Balls nasty.

    Parker-
Thanks! I actually developed a pretty neat pitch for a horror comic that I have to come back to one day. I actually bought a copy of “Essential Tomb Of Dracula” #2 recently, just for the Gene Colan art. Also, I’ve been looking at a lot of Vampirella.

First, happy birthday! Second, given my general loathing for the mega-rich, it was a struggle to make them sympathetic. ;)

    Summey-

Much appreciated, sir. Nixon’s creepy enough, but once you throw some shadows on him, watch out!

    My mon licken chegs…
    Chegs kinda my nasty…
Leader take you face f’ touchin’ me, spud…

Sorry, the references to “The Dark Knight Returns” made me do that.

Has anybody read Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith’s creepy crime comic “Fell”? It has a nun in it who wears a Nixon mask. I guess if you need creepy in your comic, just add Tricky Dick and stir.

  10. MAS says:

    Heheh Pastor don’t shiv!
I remember reading those mutant pages thinking, “What the F*#K is going on here??” Like I didn’t understand it …and like I should of understood it :)

This strip is the best. Keep up the good work!

  12. The Hero says:

    Jay,
I just want to know the story about the guy who got the baby mask. Is he like ‘Why do I have to be Mr. Pink’ from Reservoir Dogs?

  13. The Hero says:

Jay I hope you don’t mind but I’ve written a post on Webbyr.com about the new Volume.
