Great as always, but I think you could drop the ballon bubble going back to the church and just leave the one on the phone, and still have the same effect.
Personally, I think (know) both word balloons are necessary. Because it shows that the call is coming from right outside the church. Which I suspect also means that things look pretty bleak for the good Reverend come next Wednesday.
I’ve gone back and forth on this one. I think I’ve landed on “it would be clear enough with just the image of the phone.” Then again, we have the advantage of having seen the bubble already.
And, yes … this looks like nastiness that couldn’t be pulled off in the age of cell phones. Knowing where the minister’s phone is might be crucial?
Every week it just seems to get more and more intense, I have faith you can deliver once the intensity finishes the crescendo, Jay!! It’s really an exciting ride, I feel like the kid looking around thinking, “Is everyone seeing this???” hehehe
As it’s topic of the week, my vote is for just the word balloons from the phone, I think that would make it almost haunting. But it’s easy to critique after the fact…
I’m excited about the lively debate about the word balloons. I guess I feared that it wouldn’t be clear that the phone booth was within sight line of Reverend Tisdale’s office. I should have had more faith in my storytelling abilities AND my audience. I’ll fix it in post-production.
(Incidentally, last year I shot something at one of those big Baptist megachurches, and brought my kid along when I dropped by to pick up the check. We got there and he said “this can’t be a church! It doesn’t have a plus-sign on top!” It’s possible I have neglected certain elements of my son’s education…)

I agree with Summey. Must be a result of late night lettering.

Short of putting a cross on the building, there’s no way to know we’re looking at a church in the background. I think it’s great the way it is.
