THE BLACK FIST 15 – Hot Pursuit

THE BLACK FIST 15 – Hot Pursuit

WORLD OF HURT’s first car chase!  This one goes down nice and easy with a little bit of Isaac Hayes’ “Pursuit Of The Pimpmobile” from Truck Turner (1974):

Bullitt is the best car chase ever with To Live and Die in LA being a very close second. Excited to see if you can portray the sense of speed and motion.

  2. Summey says:

Your the only guy I know you can draw a convincing car chase. Va-Va-Vroom!!!!! (sorry inside joke).

  3. Matt S. says:

Nice strip this week!! The cars were especially well drawn — please tell me you didn’t use Sketch Up…?

I coooouuuld tell you that, but alas, it would be a lie. It’s just so damn useful, I can’t help myself!

As Summey was alluding to below, I spent a long time developing a comic that never saw the light of day, called Va-Va-Vroom!, about three female car thieves. I have a massive binder full of reference material (including an interview with an actual car thief), I would regularly cruise eBay for good deals on classic car models (ended up with about 30), and I had a bookshelf bursting with weighty picture books full of every make and model car known to man. I got to be pretty good with setting up perspective grids and freehanding cars, but SketchUp has made my like immensely easier.

    Bigheadscientists-
Oh man, that’s a tall order, but I’m gonna do my best! Plus, Steve McQueen makes everything cooler. How can I top that?

And they claimed cell phones were the reason there aren’t any more phone booths.

Nice job, Jay. Still holding out hope to one day see Pastor (or friends) jump into a Kowalski/Death Proof-style 1970 Dodge Challenger.

  7. As always…SOLID!

    Doug G.-
I have a gentlemen’s agreement with my buddies, Chad Bowers and Chris Sims, not to use the Challenger, since they used it first in their book, The Hard Ones http://www.actionagecomics.com/?cat=12. However, Pastor will be driving a new car in this storyline and we’ll see his swank pad, too.

  9. Doug G says:

Ah … fair enough. That is a sleek black machine they’ve got there.

I’m unduly excited about seeing Pastor’s pad.

  10. Great stuff…the anticipation of the car chase was well paced and now it’s on, I’m loving it!
Seems like the big artillery may be next up?
(Nice call on the lack of phonebooths Doug heheh :) )
