This week, I expand on the ties between Sig and Harlan. I wasn’t too sure about the dialogue, because I’m asking the reader to connect a lot of dots, but hopefully, I laid it out well enough. Like many of the elements of The Black Fist, there’s a historical basis this new development. In real life, Charles Manson attempted to enlist the Hell’s Angels into his schemes with the promise of women and drugs. He was unsuccessful, but knowing that outlaw biker gangs in California controlled the methamphetamine trade in the 1970s, I considered that maybe he was using the wrong bait. Also, this latest wrinkle will have play into later events.
Also, our Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds for a WORLD OF HURT: The Thrill-Seekers hardcover graphic novel is going pretty well so far. With a little more than half the time left in our Kickstarter campaign, we’ve raised a little less than half the funds. Thank you so much to everyone who has already contributed. I’ll be blitzing familiar outlets soon to help raise awareness and cash, but if anyone wants to shake down their own friends and family, that would be appreciated, too. Just no rough stuff…and if so,..uh…don’t leave bruises.

Sig’s ’stache is epic. And bonus points for his right-hand man looking like a nerdier Johnny Ramone.
From what I understand, Kickstarter campaigns tend to have their big spikes toward the beginning and at the end … so a little bit of a slowdown in the middle is to be expected. You’re pretty well on pace, so that’s a good thing. Although, a fresh round of pimping won’t hurt!
I am going to assume the meth lab stuff was either well researched our totaly made up. Unless Guess Who and you are running an extra little business out of the basement. Is that how you mange to stay up late on Tuesday and crank the strips out? :p
Pretty detailed drawing of the meth lab. Almost like you know … nevermind. Anyways, this story has so many cool elements from the 70’s era, not just blaxploitation, being weaved together. I really like where it’s going. Finally got around to pledging some cash on kickstarter too. I posted it to my facebook and twitter feed too. I figure every little bit helps.
Heheh “pragmatism” can gloss over many evils. With Harlan referring to his dad as, “Daddy” that really gives a sense of his weasel-like vulnerabilities too.
So is the guy in frame three holding Sig back? Sig definitely doesn’t look impressed with Harlan’s prophesising.
Lots of nice framing in this set, Jay. Drawing the eye into the scene.

He does look like a blonde Ramone, doesn’t he? Thanks for the Kickstarter advice. I sent out some press releases last night, so I’ll see what happens next.

Meth? Nooo! Although whatever you do, don’t lick the brown WORLD OF HURT promo cards. That was a bad batch.

It’s just from watching too much “Breaking Bad” on AMC…I swear. Thanks for the kind words, the donation, and helping to promote the campaign. I also appreciate your regular comments. It’s always good to know what people are thinking.

With Sig and his buddy, I was thinking more of mutual bemusement. There was a wry smile underneath Sig’s huge moustache that showed up better in the pencils than the inks.

Hi,
I pledged for your Kickstarter campaign, but I live in the United Kingdom. I don’t mind paying extra postage for my goodies, but will that be okay?

P.S. Your strip is awesome.
@thebigsmoke
Thanks for your generosity and “kicking” in the extra for postage. It always amazes me how far the reach of the Internet can be.
