I hope you all had a good weekend!
Finally, the elusive ‘Gentleman’ enters the scene. I wanted him to have toughness, authority, and class, so I modeled ‘The Gentleman’ on the late actor, Adolph Caesar, who played “Sgt. Waters” in A Soldier’s Story and “Old Mister Johnson” in The Color Purple. Incidentally, Adolph Caesar provided the gravelly, vaguely sinister narration in many Blaxploitation trailers, so it was a good choice on yet another level.

Nice work as always. I love the detail on the wood paneling very 1970’s.
Ahh, old school WOH.
Is it just because Pastor’s back?
Is it because we got four frames instead of three?
All very cool!
The phrase “Bitch, you must be outta your GOT-damn mi…” is so utterly right that I barely could get past the first panel for rolling it around in my mind. I’m glad I did, this is gorgeous.
I miss Adolph Caesar.
(Incidentally, Jay, I just picked up a TPB of a Batman story called “King Tut’s Tomb” that has new and some old classic JLGL art, it’s really some beautiful stuff, made me think of you.)
Oh man, so many characters…hope I can remember who’s who! Great work.
Just a damn fine looking strip. Loving “The Gentleman” already.
@Summey-
I was looking at some of Holdaway’s work this weekend on Modesty Blaise. His rendering of textures was brilliant.

@MAS-
I’m pretty happy with the way the drawings came together, too. Thanks!

@Mistah Pete-
Jimmy’s wounded indignation and incredulity help sell the moment. I also just realized “The Gentleman” hit Jimmy with a rolled up newspaper like a dog. Talk about insult to injury.

@Scott Salsman-
I think this is the last major character to be introduced, so I think I’ve got all the major players on the board now. I was watching Super Fly recently and it struck me with how little action there is throughout it, but the relationships and history between the characters creates so much tension. Although the interlude with “The Gentleman” advances the plot, hopefully, I can use him to flesh out Pastor and Pointe Blanc a little more.

@Doug G.-
Thanks! “The Gentleman” figures prominently in Pastor’s past and is probably the only person who can get away with calling him “kid.”

Jay, another great episode. I especially love the first two panels. Good pacing.
Oh, Jimmy got schooled.
If you Mom read this one, no wonder she encouraged you to go to church on Sunday!
