I’m writing this at around 5:30 on Saturday night, June 25th, and it’s only been about two hours since I found out my father had passed away. His name is Nehemiah Potts and he was a great dad.
He died after complications from a surgery to remove a growth from his kidney. Wednesday will be my parent’s 48th wedding anniversary.
I’ll be away a while, so I won’t be posting anything for the next couple weeks, until at least after July 13th. I hope you can understand.

UPDATE: June 27, 2011
It’s been a few days and the arrangements have all been made. My father’s funeral will be this Saturday at my parent’s home church at the First Baptist Church of Yellow Springs in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Our family is coping. Sometimes the memories bring smiles; other times tears. We are thankful for all the kind thoughts, prayers, calls, messages, and help we’ve received from everyone who has heard already.
In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made in the name of Nehemiah Potts to one of the following organizations:
Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute
c/o Kettering Medical Center Foundation
3535 Southern Blvd.
Kettering, OH 45429
or
American Diabetes Association
PO Box 11454
Alexandria, VA 22312

Jay, my condolences to you and your family.
So sorry to hear of your father’s passing, Jay. Sending prayers your way.
Hello all,
As Jay’s wife, I would like to thank the World of Hurt fans for your understanding and support during this difficult time. It boosts our spirits to hear from people we have never met in person but who care for us just the same. Jay is still away to take care of his family, but he plans to resume World of Hurt in a couple of weeks. Noelle
I lost my father right around this time last year. it’s hard and I’m still dealing with it. Don’t worry about us, take as long as you need, your strip is so good it’s worth waiting for. very sorry for your loss.
Wow, I’ve been out of the loop without internet for a few weeks, and just got back to see this last week. Many of my best friends lost their fathers over the past year, or are currently struggling with an ailing parent, and I can’t even imagine what it’s like.
I’m not a traditionally religious person so I don’t know what to say except I’m sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family
Thank you Noelle for the update.
I am sorry for your loss, and may your family and loved ones continue to support and love each other during your grieving season.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I will say a prayer for you and your loved ones.
My thoughts are with you and yours.
My wife and I have 3 living parents over 75 – when the phone rings late at night we both wake ‘really up’.
Our thoughts and prayers are turned towards you.
I am new to the strip – just read from beginning in the last 4 days. You don’t need me to tell you how good it is.
Jay … I hadn’t been to the site in a long while and thus didn’t know about your Dad. Though they come later, my thoughts are with you.
