Just a quick note.   You now keep track of my mad ramblings on Twitter.  Just look for username “World_Of_Hurt.”  Drop by and leave haikus, limericks, invectives, or anything else less than 140 characters.  I’ll try to post one of those handy widgets on the site in the future.

The Social Networking Revolution Will Not Be Televised

WORLD OF HURT now has its own page on Facebook.  Accept no substitutes (except for the fantastic fan site that Guess Who? has been running from her Facebook page, but go on over and join the new one, too)!

Among other things, I plan to use it to post images of thumbnails, rejected panels, character designs and other process related goodies.  Also, I’ll post photos as I begin attending more events and conventions throughout the year.  Right now you can find photos of two great fans who purchased two of the shirts available through the WORLD OF HURT Online Store.

The official WORLD OF HURT Facebook page can be found here.

“The Players” Ball

With all the major characters introduced now for The Thrill-Seekers, I decided to updateThe Players” page in the Menu bar with short bios on the cast.  Since the storyline has not concluded, and it is also for the benefit of new readers, I tried not to give too much away in the cast page.  Let me know what you think.

BADAZZ MOFO!

BadAzzMofo banner

I just wanted to point out that my man, David Walker, is offering a sale on back issues of his magazine, BadAzz Mofo, on his site, BadAzzMofo.com

The magazine offers some of the most comprehensive, insightful, and hilarious analysis of the Blaxploitation movement that I’ve ever come across.   People use the term “LOL” a lot on the Internets, but I promise that you will literally laugh out loud on many occasions with BadAzz Mofo.  Throughout the history of the magazine (which, sadly, is no longer being published) I believe David Walker and his crew managed to actually review every single one of the nearly 300 Blaxploitation movies produced.  David scored some fantastic interviews with stars like Gloria Hendry and Fred Williamson.  The intense gauntlet he had to run to score an interview with Jim Brown is like something out of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, with Brown even growling his version of “You chose…wisely,” before consenting to begin the interview.

Within the pages of BadAzz Mofo, you’ll also find some exclusive Jim (Grrl Scouts) Mahfood art, music reviews, and discover which asshole from Magnum, P.I. made David’s mother cry.  (His mom, Bonnie, is a real sweetheart, too, which makes his assholitry even more disgusting).  That’s another thing: through the bits of autobiographical information interspersed throughout the magazine, you quickly learn that David is every bit as insane, badazz, and fascinating as the fictional characters he covers, and by the time you finish reading these issues, the term “foot-to-ass,” will be firmly entrenched in your daily vocabulary.  Although BadAzz Mofo the magazine has ceased publication, David regularly updates his site, BadAzzMofo.com with reviews and commentary of pop culture with the same biting, acerbic wit and insight that was a hallmark of the print version.

David’s got a fantastic sale going on right now for a 5-issue combo pack, but supplies are limited, so get ‘em while the gettin’s good!

DAMN, He’s Good!

I fear no man, but I fear Jim Rugg.  I fear him, because one day, he’s going to put Afrodisiac online, and immediately I’ll lose my title of “The Internet’s #1 Blaxploitation Webcomic!”

Yesterday, I gazed upon this, and wept:

Vietnam: 20,000 BC!

Then, I saw this and cursed the heavens:

duckcover

If you don’t know by now, the hardcover edition Afrodisiac, by Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca ships this December from Adhouse Books.  It will feature the collected Afrodisiac stories, mock covers like those above and an assorted assload of Awesomeness.  Trust me, if you’re visiting this site, you’ll need this book in your life like you need oxygen!

So visit your local comic book retailer, look him or her…who am I kidding…look HIM dead in the eye and say “Afrodisiac.  Order it.  NOW!   ISBN 978-1-935233-06-0.”  If he throws you shade, or if you, like me, struggle to remember 13-digit ISBN numbers, then there’s always Amazon

BOOM GOES THE ‘DYNAMITE!’

I tend to get a little long-winded in my Friday blog posts, so I’m gonna keep this short and sweet.  Today, you don’t need to be sitting in front of your computer screen reading what I have to say about Blaxploitation.  You need to be out there experiencing it for yourself at your local movie house, because the new film Black Dynamite opens nationwide today.

Remember, if this flick does well, then we can bring more attention we can bring to this genre that we know and love so much.

So what are you waitin’ for?  If you’re at home reading this, you need to be headed out the door and if you’re at work, score some tickets from Fandango and avoid the lines.  Either way, quit draggin’ ass and get gone.

GET!!

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: WORLD OF HURT Joins Blog@Newsarama!

On Wednesday, I promised a major announcement for WORLD OF HURT, and today, I plan to deliver.  I am extremely proud to announce that The Internet’s #1 Blaxploitation Webcomic will find its second home on Newsarama.com, the Internet’s premier home for comic book news, reviews, and information.

Don’t worry, of course, new episodes of WORLD OF HURT will continue to be posted every Wednesday, right here at www.worldofhurtonline.com, but starting next week, “re-runs” of WORLD OF HURT,beginning with the very first episode of “The Thrill-Seekers,” will run every Tuesday and Thursday at Blog @ Newsarama.  Think of it in the same way as a syndicated TV show like The Office.  Every Thursday, NBC airs new episodes, but you can also find previous episodes in syndication on your local TV station.   It is a tremendous promotional opportunity to reach new readers and spread the “gospel” of Pastor to fans of comic fans who may not have found the site otherwise.

I am very proud to be part of the Blog @ Newsarama family.  Troy Brownfield and David Pepose of Newsarama.com have been extremely accommodating and helpful.  In order to introduce WORLD OF HURT to the Newsarama.com audience, David conducted an interview with me this past week.  I was honest and candid as possible, and hopefully it gives you some insight into how WORLD OF HURT came to be, what I’ve learned along the way, and what more I want to accomplish.  The interview was posted last night and can be found HERE.

I can’t believe how far this little strip has come in the past six months.  Everyone has been so receptive and positive about the strip thus far.  I’d like to thank everyone who has discovered this site for sticking around for the ride, and I’d like to welcome all the new “WORLD” Travelers who have just joined us in progress.  I urge you all to buckle up and hunker down, ’cause it only gets more fun from here.

On another note, in three days, the ever-popular feature, Off-Topic Mondays, returns to WORLDOFHURTONLINE.
